Great Pond Mountain Improved Climbing Trail, Kiosk & Tools

A Project of Eastern Maine Cycling Club
Orland, Maine

$ 1135.00 raised of $ 6600.00

We built Capstone Trail last year to rave reviews by riders and now we want a better climb. We have struck hero dirt and this new climb will be real fine! This modern climbing trail will be a total of .9 miles and be a high profile trail in the Wildlands of Great Pond Mountain.

Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust (GPM) holds 4,500 acres of land just outside of Bucksport, Maine. Eastern Maine Cycling Club has been working with Great Pond Mountain to construct singletrack mountain bike trails on their lands. This project will be for funding the construction of a .9 mile intermediate climbing trail that will take riders up to the top of the Capstone Trail, built in the summer of 2020. This will be a much needed improvement to a planned system giving riders a pleasant climb over the steep, eroded jeep trail climb that currently exists. Funding will be for hand tools, signage, kiosk and some machine-built singletrack. Construction is currently underway and a new opportunity has materialized with the purchase of an adjacent parcel of land thus, allowing for an extension of the originally planned trail. This new trail system Eastern Maine Cycling Club is creating stands in very close proximity to Acadia National Park, America’s fifth most visited National Park. GPM lands boast four mountain tops with spectacular views of the surrounding areas including coastal Maine and the mountains of Acadia. GPM lands are mostly closed to automobile traffic, have numerous trails and former 4WD roads, and offers backcountry camping in lean-toos and primitive tent sites. Many brooks and streams can be found all over the lands with excellent swimming in Craig Pond and Alamoosook Lake.
