Pennsylvania State Parks are Under Threat. Speak Up Today!

June 23, 2016

Legislation has been introduced in the Pennsylvania General Assembly that would require the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), which is responsible for managing all state parks and forests, to consider private proposals for commercial development in state parks. Your favorite rides in places like Nockamixon State Park and Bald Eagle State Park could be lost to office buildings, amusement parks, golf courses and other development contrary to the open and scenic qualities of our public lands.

House Bill 2013 could be wrapped up in budget negotiations and quickly passed without sufficient public consideration and input. If your state representative is a sponsor of the bill, please contact your representative and Governor Wolf today to tell them that protecting Pennsylvania's open spaces is of utmost importance.

DCNR is a nationally recognized leader in state land management, and already works with more than a dozen advisory groups to improve public access and recreational opportunities. House Bill 2013 places extraordinary cost and pressure on DCNR to allow private use of public land.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council has already expressed its opposition to this bill, and it is critical that all Pennsylvanians who care about our state lands have their voice heard.
