Mountain Bike Skills Progression Trail Project - Camden Snow Bowl

A Project of Midcoast Maine NEMBA
Camden, ME

$ 3725.00 raised of $ 10000.00

This project will be based at the Camden Snow Bowl, which is a town owned and operated ski area. The scope of work will involve upgrading existing trails and our pump track that IMBA helped to build. Our objective is to improve the experience for beginner/entry level mountain bikers.

Grass roots trail development and maintenance has been the foundation of mountain biking in Midcoast Maine. Our trails have evolved through thousands of hours of volunteer advocacy and collaboration with community organizations to provide better riding close to home.

Our earliest and primary riding hub has been the Camden Snow Bowl, a municipally operated ski area. One of the obstacles we have faced at the Snow Bowl is offering trails that are family friendly and benefit all rider abilities. Currently the Snow Bowl only supports more experienced riders. The vision for this project is to create a location that is welcoming for beginners and can be enjoyed by everyone. We will accomplish this by developing learn to ride zones and upgrading existing trails with a focus on rider progression. This will ensure that all people will feel confident while learning to ride, as well as support those looking for more challenges.

The key focus areas of this project are;

To engage and mentor local youth to help volunteer and take ownership of the trails at the Snow Bowl

Upgrade and transform existing pump track into a learn to ride zone by including additional technical trail features and upgrading the trail tread along with connecting trails below the double chairlift

Rebuild existing technical trail features along the Bitter End trail to improve safety and sustainability.

Upgrade and transform the existing Chute Loop trail into a learn to ride zone to provide a true beginner ride experience.

Harden and upgrade trail tread and drainage along existing trail connections between each learn to ride zone.
