Virginia Land Protection Campaign
In April of 2004, IMBA, after negotiating with the Virginia Wilderness Committee, agreed to support a bill to protect lands in the Jefferson National Forest of southern Virginia. The bill would establish nine new Wilderness areas and two National Scenic Areas.
To accommodate bicycling, Wilderness advocates made numerous boundary adjustments to the proposed Wilderness areas, and, for the two areas that were very popular for bicycling, they agreed to National Scenic Areas.
IMBA considers this a milestone for the bicycling and Wilderness issue.
IMBA strongly encourages mountain bikers to write their member of Congress and ask that they support this bill.
