2004 IMBA/BLM Tangible Accomplishments

IMBA held 140 meetings on Capitol Hill as part of our 2004 IMBA Summit in Washington, D.C. IMBA lobbied Congress to fund the BLM Recreation Management at $70 million in the FY 05 Interior Appropriations Bill.

IMBA created the Land Manager Toolkit as a resource for managing mountain bike trails.

Moab, Utah

  • Designed 3 miles of new trail with the Moab Trails Alliance, the first new singletrack in Moab.

Winnemucca, Nevada

  • Assessed 1,000 feet of existing trail with local volunteers.
  • Led volunteer workday to maintain 1,000 feet of trail.

Battle Mountain, Nevada

  • Taught an IMBA Trailbuilding School to 20 local volunteers.
  • Designed 1,000 feet of new trail.
  • Built 650 feet of new trail.

Ely, Nevada

  • Assessed 2 miles of existing trail for sustainability and mountain bike experience.
  • Taught an IMBA Trailbuilding School to 20 local volunteers.
  • Designed and built 700 feet of new trail.
  • When complete, the trail system will include 40 miles of trail extending from the town to the mountains.
  • Joint project with BLM.

Farmington, New Mexico

  • Assessed 5 miles of existing trail for sustainability, the mountain bike experience, and illegal OHV use which is widening the trail.
  • Taught an IMBA Trailbuilding School to 12 local trail leaders.
  • Maintained 4,000 feet of existing trail.

Carlsbad, New Mexico

  • Assessed 4 miles of existing trail for sustainability.
  • Taught an IMBA Trailbuilding School to 15 local trail enthusiasts.
  • Maintained 8,000 feet of existing trail.
  • Featured on local radio station.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

  • Strengthened partnership between the Albuquerque field office and local IMBA-affiliated mountain bike club
  • Assessed 5 miles of existing trail in the White Mesa area for sustainability and expansion.

The Black Canyon Trail, Arizona

  • Assessed the southern half of the 69 mile Black Canyon Trail corridor.
  • Designed more than 25 miles of loop trails.
  • Taught multiple IMBA Trailbuilding Schools to OHV, hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian organizations.
  • Proposed phased plan for trail construction, trailhead location, and volunteer collaboration.
  • When complete, the Black Canyon Trail System has the potential for more than150 miles of trail.
  • Joint project between BLM and RTCA.

Little Creek Mesa, Utah

  • Designed and realigned trail with BLM field staff.
  • Initiated documentation for the Environmental Assessment for the proposed trail system.
  • When complete, the trail system will be more than 20 miles long.

Kellogg, Idaho

  • Facilitated a public-private partnership between Silver Mountain Resort and the adjacent BLM land.
