Opening to the public in late fall of 2023, Sunset Park will feature professionally developed natural surface trails close to where people live, reclaiming historically underutilized land that was once a landfill with an open burn pit. Using existing collaborative funding, a Master Trail Plan was developed by IMBA Trail Solutions, and approved by the City of Waynesboro. These new, professionally designed and built trails will give new life to the property, adding four-and-a-half miles of trails along the wooded section of the old landfill.

These new beginner and intermediate-level trails create opportunities for a broader range of recreational visitors, complementing the challenging steep and rocky terrain available in the nearby National Forest. The Dig In Funds raised through this campaign will fund the labor costs for mechanized trail construction by a professional trail-building company of the new four-and-a-half miles of beginner and intermediate singletrack.
