Hurkey Creek Restoration

A Project of Coachella Valley Mountain Bike Association
Hurkey Creek , May Valley, California

$ 6050.00 raised of $ 15000.00

Unexpectedly in 2013 and again in 2018, Hurkey Creek was destroyed by two large fires, and recreational activity became unsafe on the badly damaged trails that are extensively eroded and overgrown. In order to restore Hurkey Creek, the Coachella Valley Mountain Bike Association (CVMBA) is planning a multi-phase trail restoration project, using funds raised via the Dig In Grant program to redevelop the Keen Camp Climb and Main Loop. The group also aims to ensure the area will be able to support safe, accessible youth riding and racing opportunities, providing access to beginner and intermediate trails, facilitating entry into the sport of mountain biking.

The Dig In Funds will be used primarily for trail restoration along the Keen Camp Climb and Main Loop. Funds will cover construction equipment, materials, and supplies for repairing the severely eroded trail base; as well as rentals of trail and brush clearing equipment; signage; and promotional materials intended to increase volunteer buy-in and participation.
