Rotorua (NZ) Gold-level

According to Redbull’s mountain biking web series On Track, “When we die and go to mountain bike heaven, there’s a good chance it will probably look a lot like Rotorua, New Zealand”. The riding varies from extensive trails in the Whakarewarewa Forest to the gravity park at Skyline Rotorua, New Zealand's first year-round gondola assisted bike lift. Rotorua also provides a plethora of other activities and attractions, including natural thermal spas and hot pools to rejuvenate your aching muscles after a hard day on the trails.

The Whakarewarewa Forest (also known as the Redwoods) is one of the oldest mountain bike networks in New Zealand. Close to 200km of master-crafted trails provide unbeatable riding surfaces, well-draining volcanic soils, varying topography and fantastic scenery. Continuously evolving, these stunning trails cater for all levels of rider and are just minutes south of the city center.

On the northern edge of town, Skyline Rotorua MTB Gravity Park is New Zealand's first year-round gondola assisted bike lift, accessing world-class downhill mountain biking. This provides riders easy access to an 8.5-kilometre trail network featuring varying terrain for all ability levels. Skyline Rotorua is also home to Crankworx, the event that brings the world’s downhill, slopestyle and enduro legends together for an action packed festival of mountain biking mayhem.

For fun off the bike, Rotorua also provides a plethora of activities and attractions to keep you entertained. The natural thermal spas and hot pools littered around the area are the perfect way to rejuvenate your aching muscles after a hard day on the trails. Rotorua is also a heartland of Maori culture, a bustling hub of adventure tourism activities and a geothermal wonderland of geysers, mud pools and colorful crater lakes.
