Many mountain bikers (and other trail users, too) enjoy building and maintaining their local trails. These communities can progress their skills by partnering with IMBA Trail Solutions for an advanced trail school.
The Trail Solutions team of Alex Harrington and Jesse Livingston visited Mt. Kessler, near Fayetteville, Arkansas, to teach advanced trail building techniques to chapter members from across IMBA's South Central Region, with the Ozark Off-Road Cyclists (OORC) and then-Region Director Steve Schneider serving as hosts.
The theme for this class was hand-cut singletrack utilizing natural features, as well as sustainable armoring. Alex and Jesse welcomed local trail guru Dave Renko and his expert knowledge about Arkansas soil/rock. Dave is a crew foreman for Progressive Trail Design and the founder of the OORC.
The result is an awesome re-route through a big drainage area, which entailed moving several tons of rock by hand. Volunteers interacted throughout the weekend, planning, sharing successes and hardships, but most of all, absorbing the great info shared by Dave, Alex and Jesse. The trail knowledge will soon make its way to IMBA chapters across the region.
