A federally funded grant opportunity

The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) provides funds to develop and maintain recreational trails, provide trail education and offer training programs. RTP supports trail patrols and trail-related facilities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses.

For years, mountain bikers have taken advantage of RTP funds to help create significant trail systems all across the country. Mountain bikers have also been at the forefront of protecting this valuable funding source, which is a tiny percent of the federal transportation bill.

A few famous RTP funds recipients include Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania, home to Dirt Rag Dirt Fest; Brown County State Park in Indiana; Oak Mountain in Alabama; and the Forks Area Trail System in South Carolina. Some of these places have received amounts of $500,000 or more.
