On April 1, an IMBA press release announced early leaders for the 2014 Model Trail awards, including a fat bike tour of Siberia, a private Ride Center in Aspen and an uphill enduro trail.
That release was an April Fool's prank, but this one is the real deal: Nominations for the 2014 awards are due by May 16.
Nominations and other materials for the 2014 Model Trail awards — including Epics, Flow Trails, Ride Centers and a new category, Community Bike Parks — are due in about a month. Epics can be nominated by anyone by accessing an online application form. All other Model Trail nominations must be submitted to an IMBA region director, or to IMBA's chris [dot] bernhardt [at] imba [dot] com (Trail Solutions) department if no region director exists for the location.
Read about the 2013 class of Model Trail award winners, which included six Ride Centers, four Epics, three Flow Trails and two Gateway Trails in locations from the Czech Republic to Kentucky. These are the trails worth traveling to, the best places to introduce someone to the sport we all love and are the facilities builders and advocates should look to for inspiration. They vary from gorgeous adventures in the backcountry to innovative trail systems located amidst population centers.
Winners of the 2014 Model Trail awards will be on hand for a presentation ceremony at the IMBA World Summit, August 20-23 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
