Registration is now open for the National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. The three-day event, March 4-6, is hosted annually by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) and has long been the premier bicycle advocacy event in our nation's capital. IMBA is providing reduced registration fees and dirt-centric educational sessions for mountain bikers.

It is critical that mountain bikers maintain positive political momentum following a major legislative victory in 2012. IMBA and its supporters convinced Congress to preserve the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), an $85-million federal funding source for trail projects that has supported several IMBA Epics. The funding is only guaranteed for two years, meaning mountain bikers can't afford to disengage.

The summit is an excellent way to build relationships with your members of Congress and their staff. U.S. representatives and senators can be very powerful allies when the time comes to develop singletrack destinations or fight to preserve the RTP.

IMBA's sponsorship of the event and direct involvement will ensure that mountain and road cyclists are working together to lobby as a unified front. The IMBA track includes sessions and workshops designed to help mountain bike advocates lobby for public lands funding, protection and access.

Register before Feb. 1 and save $100. Be sure to select the IMBA track to take advantage of the discount and our mountain-bike specific sessions.
