Primary skills addressed: how to start / restart up on up-hills, knowing your gears, going slow to go fast and technical ups. This clinic will have 1 hour of hands of drills and skills, followed by an uphill ride to find your pace, pleasure and confidence to get the top. What goes up must come down, enjoy the fruits of your labor by enjoying great single track all the way back to the trailhead. Playing w/ Gravity: Want to find the comfort of riding downhill? or learn to ride safer and faster on the descent? This 3hr clinic will give you the confidence and knowledge to safely and successfully move downhill. Topic and skills addressed: How to use your brakes to go faster, corning, negotiating obstacles, looking ahead and reading terrain. The selected trail’s for this clinic will focus on downhill technique, with required up-hill as well. Finding Endurance: The 3hr clinic will discuss techniques to keep you pedaling and take your riding to your next level. Discussion topics will include, cadence, calories, water, terrain selection and gear shifting. This is 3hrs clinic is designed for more advanced riders looking to improve their cardio strength. We are your mountain bike headquarters for the Cuyuna Lakes mountain bike trails. We sell and rent both hardtail and full-suspension mountain bikes. We have a large selection of parts, accessories and clothing, and our top-notch (and very friendly) bike mechanics provide maintenance and repairs on all makes and models. In addition, we have maps of the area and trails and can get you started and headed out to the trails. We will give you information on where to stay and eat/drink. Before or after your ride you can hang out on our deck and have access to Wi-Fi or just relax and chat. If you are looking for other activities to participate in while you are here, we also rent kayaks,canoes and paddleboards and will deliver them to any location, including the beautiful mine lakes that you will see while biking the trails. There is also a 7 mile paved trail through the recreation area, disc golf in Ironton, and geo-caching opportunities. You can pick up a GPS and the coordinates at the store. More than 100 miles of single-track mountain biking trails have earned Gilmer County the official designation as Georgia’s “Mountain Biking Capital.” And there is no off season for mountain biking here. Our trail systems are maintained year-round by a large group of volunteers from the Ellijay Mountain Bike Association. Ask the folks at the Cartecay Bike Shop or Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-Way to point you toward the Carter’s Lake Trails, a lung-busting, 5.6-mile, roller coaster of a ride that winds through the Ridgeway Recreation Area.
