We are deeply saddend by the recent loss of our long-time trail builder and dear friend Hayden Savage. We were honored to work with him on local trails for four years, where he was always the one to hit the jumps first, find the best lines and keep everyone laughing.

He truly loved life and lived it to the fullest in all seasons --an incredible mountain biker, backcountry skiier, fisherman and overall outdoor adventure master. He passed away doing what he loved, playing in the snowy mountains. His spirit will forever be guiding us on the trails, the river and the powder.

This year has been filled with too many blows to our mountain bike community, including the loss of Chris Johns from Wheels Bike Shop and Marc Sehler, the master of all Steamboat trails. We are so grateful to each of them for their dedication to mountain biking and for leaving a wonderful legacy in our community.

All areas south of the Ridge Trail, including Beall Trail and Kemry Draw, are closed to all forms of entry from Dec. 1 through June 30 to protect elk during their sensitive winter and calving seasons. [Violators to the closure face a $175 fine from BLM].

Thank you to everyone who has attended the trails alliance meetings, this group has continued to grow exponentially.

UPDATE: Based on discussions from the past few meetings, we are now creating a comprehensive committee composed of user-group representatives in order to successfully address the trail and recreation concerns within our community. This group is still forming, and with help from the City and US Forest Service, we are hoping to have a professional, unbiased facilitator run these meetings. The next meeting, which will be held by the new committee, will occur in January (date/time TBD). All of these meetings will remain open to the public.
