Please join us, Friday, April 19, during the Sea Otter Classic to hear more about IMBA's Urban Bike Park Initiative, supported by the SRAM Cycling Fund.
Lessons from the Trail:
Bringing Mountain Bikes to Urban Parks

A presentation and briefing with the International Mountain Bicycling Association on next-generation infrastructure for mountain bicycling in urban parks.

With declining revenues and growing demands on open space and city parks, municipal leaders are exploring new approaches to outdoor recreational activities. This briefing will explore the rapid rise in mountain bike facilities, bike specific trails and pump tracks  in U.S. cities. These "bike parks" are cost-effective new facilities or retrofits to existing or unused parks that increase public participation, encourage biking, benefit a wide age group and diverse demographic by creating designated parks for skill development and recreational mountain biking. New information also shows that bike parks benefit businesses and can revitalize urban parks and open space.

During this briefing:
* We'll discuss the elements of bike parks, some model facilities and IMBA's Urban Bike Park Initiative.
* A representative from Specialized and SRAM will discuss their interest in urban bike parks as a means to activate kids, youth and families.
* IMBA and Alpine Bike Parks will provide an overview of the progress across the country, and share how they are helping cities implement these innovative approaches.
