HANDS-ON TRAINING AND TESTING FOR LEADING GROUPS OR MOUNTAIN BIKE GUIDING AND FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS INSTRUCTION

Course Price = $495 for IMBA members. $550 for non-IMBA members

Completion of the course with passing the practical exam will qualify an individual to:

  • Lead individual or group mountain bike rides in a professional, systematic and safe manor
  • Assess the level of each rider in their group through a pre-ride session
  • Assess and diagnose common errors within each rider's fundamental skills
  • Prepare and implement action plans in an emergency situation
  • Make responsible choices in picking trail routes for specific groups
  • Assist ICP instructors at clinics, camps, and events

  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate (American Red Cross or equivalent)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Three or more years of mountain biking experience
  • Good communication skills with a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely
  • Ability to perform basic trailside repairs (flat tires, broken chains, shifting & brake adjustments, etc.)

- A manual and all course documents are included in the course fee.
- First day's session is 5-8pm (classroom setting).
- Second and third day sessions are on-bike outside, approximately 8am-5pm with an hour break for lunch.
- A schedule will be emailed prior to the course.

Meals and Camping:
On-site private camping and catered meals are available at Vernonia Springs. Camping and all meals are included for $110 (includes campsite and all meals Friday dinner through Sunday Lunch), or camping only is $20/night. Meals are prepared on-site by Chef Jeff Walton. Please note that there are limited options for dining near Vernonia Springs. If you choose to provide your own food please be prepared with food and snacks for the duration of the course. Optional tent rental is available for an additional fee.

In addition to tent camping there are three yurts and a wall tent available for use during the course, and we have been offered a discounted rate for WFA students! Yurts are available for $49.50 per night, and the wall tent can be reserved for $34.50 per night. They are available first-come/first-served by emailing Jeff@VernoniaSprings.com (if you have already paid a camping fee the price will be adjusted accordingly).

Driving directions and parking information:
*Please note that there is limited cell service once you turn off of US-26. Please double check and print directions ahead of time!
 
From Portland, head east on Highway 26 for 28 miles to the junction with OR-47 N (towards Vernonia/Clatskanie). Head north on OR-47 for 8.5 miles (or 4.5 miles past the entrance to Stub Stewart State Park). Slow down as you get close, it’s easy to miss the driveway for Vernonia Springs. If you reach McDonald Rd you’ve gone too far. Turn right into the driveway and park on the grass after you cross the bridge over Beaver Creek.

Cancellation Policy = A $25 admin fee will be charged to all course cancelations.  Partial refunds may be given for cancellations made 14 to 21 days before the course date, and NO refunds 13 days or less.
