SORBA Begins Strategic Planning

On Saturday July 18, the SORBA Executive Board, comprised of Paul Farrow, Angela Allen, and Annabeth Purcell (Dan Zafuto was not present); Jim Grover of the IMBA Board; and IMBA- SORBA staff, Tom Sauret, Terry Palmeri, and Robin Allen, met to discuss SORBA, its mission, and its present “state-of-the-union.” The group began to outline the discussion for the entire SORBA Board Of Directors at the November 15 meeting in Charlotte, NC. The focus was two-fold: to think strategically about the future of the organization, and to plan and frame the discussion for the November meeting.

SORBA, U.S. Forest Service, Continue Work on “Excellent” Trail

SORBA staff recently met at Bent Creek Experimental Forest with U.S. National Forest staff from the Southern Appalachian Forests to discuss opportunities available in the forest to create excellent trail for mountain biking. Representing the Forest Service were were Deb Caffin,Trail Program Manager and Michelle Mitchell, Volunteer Coordinator for the Southern Region. Recreation/Trail Program Managers attended from the Southern Appalachian forests; George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, Virginia; Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee; National Forests in North Carolina; and the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Georgia.

SORBA MidTN Welcomes New Trail Near Nashville

The Percy Warner Park Mountain Bike Trail at 1221 Forrest Park Drive runs 8 miles with differing obstacles for riders of all skill levels. It is Nashville's fourth mountain bike trail, which means metro parks now offer 25 miles.

SORBA Woodstock Awarded Big Grant from the UPS Foundation

SORBA Woodstock recently received a $25,000 grant from the UPS Foundation to benefit the Fierce Trail Project. This grant will enable the group to fund the construction of a portion of a new trail at the Ole Rope Mill Park. Thanks to UPS for its support of the project.
