Bike Parks Progressing in SoCal and Tucson
In Orange County, CA, progress is happening with the bike park at Ted Craig Regional Park in Fullerton. We recently allocated $10,000 from the IMBA Bike Park Initiative, which was matched by $10,000 from the Orange County Parks Department. With those funds, we will soon embark upon designing a world-class bike park facility. Big thanks to the parks department and to SHARE-MTB, our local chapter, and Jax Bicycle Center for being involved. Make sure to stay tuned for developments this summer. Staying on the bike park theme, progress is happening with the Tucson Bike Park in partnership with our chapter there, Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists. We will have a bike park designer in town in May, visiting the 100-Acre Woods site and meeting with municipal officials and the chapter board. The result will be a conceptual plan for a bike park tailored to that site, and we will then use this plan to assist in building further support for the project.
Caliente, NV, Trail Planning Continues to Move Forward
The next step with our trails planning project in Caliente, NV, is a meeting of the development committee this week, when we will discuss funding updates (we currently have $15,000 confirmed out of $40,000 needed to design 40 miles of singletrack); our Assistance Agreement with the BLM; and scheduling an IMBA Trail Specialist to visit town and start this next design phase. We’ll keep you posted on progress here in the coming weeks.
Whiskey 50 and the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance
We’ll be sharing a booth with PMBA at the Whiskey 50 in downtown Prescott, AZ, April 25-27. Come by and say hello, learn more about local and regional advocacy and buy a raffle ticket for $10 for the chance to win a Pivot Mach 6. That’s right; it's just $10 to support PMBA and maybe win one of the most talked about mountain bikes on the trails this year! Thanks to Pivot Cycles and Bikesmith for supporting PMBA.
Outside Bike and Brew Festival—Santa Fe, NM
This is the next event that you can catch IMBA Southwest at is the Outside Bike and Brew Festival in Santa Fe, May 16-18. Come along for group rides, great beer and live music. You can also learn more about our local chapter, the Santa Fe Fat Tire Society.
We’ll post updates on these projects and events on the IMBA Southwest Facebook page and on our regional blog in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned to those channels to learn more about our work, which wouldn’t happen with our partnerships with land managers and without you, our members. Thank you!
