IMBA extends a warm welcome to the Cave Creek Bicycle Association (DFMBA), which recently signed up to the ever-growing IMBA Chapter Program. DFMBA, based in Cave Creek, AZ, northeast of Phoenix, exemplifies the best in mountain bike advocacy.
As a group, they are inclusive of all styles of riding, cooperative in their work with land managers and comprised of a diverse group of individuals –- from kids and families to grandparents to XC racers to all-mountain recreational riders to bike shop guys. The membership represented a broad group that comes together with the common goal of developing an awesome mountain bike community for local residents and visitors to the area.
DFMBA members are forging solid working relationships with the city of Cave Creek, Maricopa County Parks and the Desert Foothills Land Trust, to develop a range of projects including connecting the Spur Cross Conservation Area with Cave Creek Regional Park. These locations offer amazing vistas, giant saguaro cacti and the potential for many miles of trails.
IMBA and DFMBA will also work together to design a new trail system in the Cave Creek District of Tonto National Forest, located east of town. This parcel of land presents an opportunity to implement the best trail design and planning techniques, as the group will literally start with a blank canvas. Opportunities in this area include advanced backcountry technical trails, flow trails and beginner and intermediate singletrack, as well as the opportunity to connect to existing trails in the area. These new trails could possibly begin at the Tonto National Forest Cave Creek District Ranger Office, offering parking, information and access to a great desert trail network.
I also hope to have the Subaru-IMBA Trail Care Crew come to Cave Creek in fall 2012 for a three-day training session to kick-start this new work in the National Forest. DFMBA will also host The fourth-annual Cave Creek Bicycle Festival on November 10, 2012. Check it out if you want to learn the trails and experience a true Sonoran Desert mountain bike experience!
Check them out on Facebook.
"With IMBA assisting the DFMBA, new trails for all experience level can be made. I can't wait to start building and riding them. With more kid friendly trails, I am sure more juniors will start to ride."
