Road Trip! - Ride Center Edition

What's the best way experience the power of community and the great work IMBA chapters are doing? Ride! Your! Bike! Some IMBA staff did just that—hitting six Midwest Ride Centers in ten days.

Two of IMBA’s newest field staff, Associate Region Directors Liz Camstra and Eric Melson, joined me and Associate Region Directors Matt Andrews and Lori Hauswirth to visit one Gold, two Silver, and three Bronze level Ride Centers over the course of 10 days. In each community, the crew spent time with the local IMBA chapter celebrating successes, listening to challenges and learning new ways to continue developing community across the country through local relationship-building.

The intersection of tourism and mountain biking was clear at every turn: working with IMBA chapters, meeting with new and established business owners, seeing the successful collaboration between local land managers and volunteer groups and learning how a town’s mining past has led to a mountain biking future in Cuyuna, Minnesota. Experiencing these communities and the great mountain biking in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula strengthens IMBA’s advocacy toolbox to build more relationships that will build great trail networks around the country.

There is so much to learn from visiting communities that prioritize trails. Take some time not only to ride those rides but learn about the local engagement and volunteers who are making the rides possible.

GOLD: Duluth, MN

SILVER: Copper Harbor, MI and Cuyuna Lakes, MN

BRONZE: Chequamegon, WI, Marquette, MI, and Twin Cities, MN
