IMBA Trail Solutions has gotten underway with the flagging of over 17 miles of trail in the Grindstone Lake area in the Village of Ruidoso, NM. Trail Specialist Chris Kehmeier kicked off the work meeting with the USFS and other local stakeholders. A few conceptual lines were tweaked to avoid nesting habitat of the Mexican Spotted Owl and Goshawk, and then work got underway. First on the board is to finish flagging the green level trail that will run around Grindstone Lake. A portion of that trail was built earlier with much fanfare and seems to be seeing plenty of traffic already. With only 8/10 of mile built of a 17+ mile system there will be plenty more for locals and visitors to enjoy. An additional loop that will take trail users further into the backcountry is also underway. Imagine big trees, bigger views and an all day serenade from the resident bull elk. It will certainly be a backcountry feel with front country access.
