After several years of planning, applying for grants, writing reports and field work, the Village of Ruidoso, NM, the Smokey Bear Ranger District (USFS) and Bicycle Ruidoso have broken ground on the first phase of an extensive trail network. The local club, Bicycle Ruidoso, has been working with the Village, the USFS and IMBA Trail Solutions to help create a master conceptual plan and field flag nearly 20 miles of trail corridor since 2009. With grants in place and approval for construction IMBA Trail Solutions is back in Ruidoso assisting the village with project management. Trail Specialist Chris Kehmeier is working with a local contractor to create the initial trail loops in what promises to be a great trail system adjacent to the Village of Ruidoso. When completed the project will add nearly six miles of trail to the existing riding options at Grindstone Lake.
