When hired by IMBA a little over a year ago I had no idea how much time I would be spending in Washington, D.C. I also had no idea just how much singletrack is accessible just outside the Beltway. Thanks to the work of the Mid Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts and IMBA Trail Solutions, the IMBA Government Affairs team is able to host a bi-annual single track moutain bike excursion for our national conservation, bike advocacy and federal land management partners just outside of D.C.
This fall's iteration of the ride was one of our best. The weather was slightly uncooperative, chilly and overcast, however our V.I.Ps were not deterred. We rolled out a bit ahead of schedule and hit the trails at Laurel Hill. A huge thanks to our MORE ride leaders who were expert hosts, explaining how after 24 hours of rain the previous day, we were still able to ride. Due to Trail Solution's excellent, sustainable design, the trails were practically mud-free.
Upon our return, the participants were all smiles. The large group of first-timers returned unscatched and eager to try mountain biking again. Katie Omberg, the member and events assistant at the League of American Bicyclists beamed and said " I had a lot of fun, and definitely want to do that again. It was so exhilarating seeing what all a bike can do: going over rocks, speeding through the rolling meadows, taking hairpin switch-back turns. I want to do it all the time now! Having the Trek bikes there was awesome; without them, I wouldn’t have been able to participate."
So a huge thank you to Trek Bicycles for our demo bikes and MORE for our ride leaders and event support. We couldn't have done it without you!
