Bike Advocates Connect with America's Great Outdoors Leaders
Last Friday IMBA joined the Mid-Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts (MORE) and Bike Maryland at the dedication of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail opening. The Anacostia Riverwalk will be a 20-mile multi-use trail along the east and west banks of the Anacostia River stretching from Prince George's County, Maryland to the the tidal basin and National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The America's Great Outdoors event kicked off with a ribbon cutting and remarks from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, U.S. Senator from Maryland Ben Cardin and D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray. Their message praised the merits of the project in bringing together recreation opportunities and conservation principles.
IMBA/MORE supplied bicycles to elected officials and "opened" the trail with a 3-mile ride with a long list of cycling advocates and key government officials. It was an excellent opportunity to say thank you to political figures while further highlighting the mission of IMBA/MORE.
Check out this video of the event, thanks to MORE's Jim Bole.
