Western Spirit, IMBA and Chapters Partner to Reward Outstanding Volunteers
IMBA and Western Spirit teamed up at the end of 2012 to reward two, outstanding IMBA chapter volunteers. Through the IMBA-REI Teaming for Trails program, chapter leaders nominated volunteers from their organizations that demonstrated outstanding efforts to improve their chapter and the sport of mountain biking.
Outstanding advocacy work included trail building and maintenance, negotiating with land managers and elected officials, driving membership and fundraising or developing programs to encourage mountain biking. Winners were selected by IMBA based on merit and got to choose the Western Spirit cycling trip of their choice for themselves and one partner.
The winners include Karen Wells-Hamilton, nominated by the Miami Valley Mountain Bike Association of southwest Ohio. Among other things, Karen has been a state mountain bike rep, volunteer bike patroller, club/chapter president, trail steward, race promoter and skills instructor.
The other winner is Keith Clarke, nominated by the Colorado Mountain Bike Association of Denver, CO. Keith is a COMBA board member, longtime leader of the Front Range Mountain Bike Patrol and one of COMBA's head trail builders and negotiators. If you can't find him on the trail, you can find him in a meeting with land managers.
Congratulations to the winners and a huge thanks to Western Spirit, a longtime IMBA partner and supporter, for donating these trips.
