This weekend was the first time that we have given four presentations in one weekend! With Club Care, Better Living Through Trails, Land Manager Training and Trail Building School under their belts, I’d say the folks in Susanville CA are experts now!
We may have sat in a room talking through power points a lot, but that didn’t stop us from getting some great trail built! With 13 volunteers, in just four hours we built 800 feet of new single-track trail alongside the Bizz Johnson Trail in Susanville CA. This single-track will eventually parallel the Bizz, and run all the way back into town! Yes! I said it. Single-track that runs into town! I think I hear the making of a ride center in progress…
Susanville currently has over 27 miles of great single-track trail at Susanville Ranch Park. The views are great, not to mention, some tough climbing and awesome down hill runs with countless berms and optional lines. On top of that, they have a 25-mile Rail Trail (Biz Johnson) that can be shuttled with the city bus! These are some amazing qualities for a small town, and I know there will be more to come for this community.
We want to thank Dan Brown of Bicycle Bananas and SABA for making this weekend possible! Also, to Stanley Bales and the Eagle Lake Bureau of Land Management for all of their hospitality and willingness to accommodate this weekend! Trails, like the ones in Susanville, happen because clubs and communities work together alongside their land managers to accomplish goals that suit everyone! Susanville has a lot of potential, and we look forward to visiting in the future to ride some new trails. Good luck with all your future endeavors and we hope to see you on the IMBA Chapter list soon!
Special thanks to all the local businesses that contributed to our stay; Susanville IGA, Safeway, The Health Nut, Pioneers Pub and Diamond Mountain Hotel and Casino.
