Little Town, Big Hearts...Pine Arizona!
Pine Arizona is a very small place on the map, but the heart of the people living there far exceeds itself! We have yet to have a visit with such a large number of dedicated community members!
We worked on a section of trail that, some day, will be included in the Fire on the Rim race. For those of you who do not know, Fire on the Rim started last year at 80 participants and has grown to over 200 this year. Pine hopes to see an even larger turn out next year.
This is a community that has it figured out! They want to bring more people into their area, and they know trails can do it! An idea stemmed to build trails into the fire-break that encircles the town, it hit the ground running. With 32 people showing up to support their trails, we laid down about 400 feet of new trail, including one large berm turn with a 30 foot long, 2 foot high retaining wall, as well as two rock armoring sections where water would pass. This group was amazing and enthusiastic!
Special Thanks to Janet and Mike Brandt for being the most accommodating hosts! Thank you to the community of Pine/Strawberry, your heart and dedication to making your area into a destination is astounding. We could not have been more impressed with the heart of this little area. A quick thanks to the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona for providing lunch as well! Finally, we want to thank Gabe (Trail Solutions) for all his help this weekend, it was our pleasure to have him aboard!
