A Real Gem in Copper Harbor

Copper Harbor, MI is literally as far North as you can drive in the US. But it’s definitely worth the drive. Copper Harbor Trails is about to be designated an IMBA Ride Center, and for good reason.

The riding here is epic – and not just because they have a loop officially designated as an IMBA EPIC. Their new line called ‘The Flow’ is 3.2 miles of descending down super flowy rollers and berms. Stairway to Heaven has a 1000 foot long boardwalk you descend down. And the nearly completed The Flying Squirrel downhill / slopestyle run has 36 features (jumps, berms, wall rides, etc) and will easily rival Whistler’s A-Line.

For those that like to ‘earn their turns’ the trails can be ridden up with the help of the vast number of grade reversals minimizing the amount of sustained climbing. However, for those that don’t like to climb (like us), the local bike shop Keweenaw Adventure Center offers a shuttle service – which we took full advantage of every day of our riding. Shuttle = more runs and more fun!

With a broad mixture of everything from green runs to true double black diamond runs, Copper Harbor has riding for all skill levels and riding styles. This is truly amazing considering the Copper Harbor population is a whopping 88 people. Even more impressive is that their local mountain bike club has over 200 members from 22 states and 3 Canadian provinces – a true testament to how much people have enjoyed their visits to the Copper Harbor trails.

If you ever find yourself way up North, be sure to plan on visiting Copper Harbor!
