I’ve been mountain biking on two different trail networks that are part of a golf resort property, and both experiences have been stellar. Imagine having someone sitting at a trailhead waiting for you to arrive, with maps to hand out and advice to give about the trails. Now imagine finishing your ride and having access to a luxurious locker room with showers stocked with fresh towels and grooming goodies. Throw in a restaurant, bar, and lodging options, and it’s easy to see how we could get spoiled with such lavish amenities connected to sweet singletrack.
This type of trail relationship between bikers and golfers may not be the norm yet, but there are a lot of reasons why we could see more progressive thinking golf resort owners contracting to have top notch singletrack built on their property in the future.
The two golf resort mountain bike trails I've ridden and highly recommend are:
Tapatio Springs Resort in Boerne, Texas: One of my favorite rides in South Texas and only 15 minutes North of San Antonio.
French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana: These trails were just awesome too. Constructed by Spectrum Trail Design, who also built a lot of the Brown County State Park trails. I have yet to ride something they have built that I did not enjoy.
Both trail networks are on golf resort property (and top notch in my opinion) but once your tires kiss the sinewy singletrack, you will be hard pressed to not feel like you are off in the back country somewhere far away from civilization. And be sure to treat yourself to a shower in the well appointed locker rooms……driving home all clean and spiffy never felt so indulgent.
