Fall rains haven't slowed down efforts to design more lift-accessed trails in Sun Valley, Idaho. Randy Spangler, Trail Specialist with IMBA's Trail Solutions, and Julian Tyo, a supervisor with the Sun Valley Company, have been braving cold, damp weather as they work to design a number of sustainable lift-accessed trails on the resort's Bald Mountain.
Spangler's expertise as a mountain biker is legendary, and his building skills equal that of his riding skills. Tyo is an expert rider who is focused on helping the Sun Valley Company improve their lift-accessed mountain biking opportunities. Sun Valley local, and Trail Solutions Trail Specialist, Chris Leman is providing GPS mapping support to the project.
The top half of Bald Mountain is on lands managed by the Ketchum Ranger District of the Sawtooth National Forest. The lower part of Baldy is managed by the Shoshone Field Office of the BLM. The agencies and the Sun Valley Company have a long history of working together to make Baldy a great ski mountain. That relationship has proved helpful as the resort, agencies, and Trail Solutions coordinate how to approach plans for new trails.
Barring a big snowstorm the design work should be wrapped up in a couple of weeks.
