BLM Idaho Trail Design
The BLM Shoshone Field Office is conducting the North Highway 20 Travel Management Plan and is incorporating proposed trails to address recreation demand in the Wood River Valley. Some trails that were designed in previous years may be within priority sage-grouse habitat; so additional trails are being designed that are outside of these sensitive areas.
Chris Leman, a Trail Specialist with IMBA Trail Solutions, is leading the fieldwork on the project. Leman is working with BLM Recreation Planner John Kurtz on finalizing the design of the trails and in flagging the proposed routes in the field. The approximately 50 square mile project area is east of the communities of Hailey and Bellevue, Idaho - between Quigley and Muldoon Canyons.
Leman says he sees a lot of promise in the design of the trails. “There’s a high demand for trails that are close to town. Each day I pass lots of people running, walking and riding on the roads that lead to the lands we are studying. Having nearby singletrack that runs through great terrain would be a nice alternative,” said Leman.
