If you've ever enjoyed the trails at Sandy Ridge, Oregon, then you owe thanks to the young adults from WOAPE. The at-risk and adjudicated youth in the WOAPE program have spent countless hours assisting Trail Solutions and the Bureau of Land Management to build the now-famous Sandy Ridge, but their work extends beyond their hand-crafted singletrack, jumps, and berms. In the nearby community of Sandy, WOAPE is developing a cafe and bakery that will teach business and employment skills to local youth. No doubt area mountain bikers will appreciate the organic, fresh-baked goods and hot coffee on their way up to or back from a couple laps down Hide-and-Seek.
WOAPE has launched a Kickstarter Campaign to raise the final amount needed to open their cafe and bakery. MJ Murdock Charitable Trust awarded them a generous grant for $75,000 to purchase equipment but an additional $30,000 is needed. With only 30 days the Kickstarter Campaign is an "all or nothing" deal. Please consider donating to support the young adults that have done so much for the Sandy Ridge trail system.
