In his recent blog post, IMBA's Executive Director Mike Van Abel celebrated the official formation of IMBA Europe. Days afterward, the first meeting of the new organization was held at the scenic Hotel Uto Kulm in Zurich, Switzerland, appropriately neutral territory for the gathering of over 30 individuals from 14 different countries.
As in North America, the success of IMBA Europe's efforts will be tied to the on-the-ground implementation of fun and sustainable mountain-bike trails, and to that end Trail Solutions will have a large role in developing model trail systems in Europe. Trail Solutions staff Chris Bernhardt and Shane Wilson were on hand to discuss how trailbuilding is a method to implement IMBA's mission and to consider projects and partnerships with the many trail consultants/contractors present, including:
- Allegra Tourismus (Switzerland)
- BikeSolutions (France)
- South Shore Design (France)
- Diddie Schneider Sportevent & Design (Germany)
- Try-Cycles (UK and Portugal)
- the Municipality of St. Moritz (Switzerland)
Also present was Mad March Racing, the purveyors of the International Mountain Bike Instructor Certification (IMIC) program.
Special thanks to perennial IMBA supporter SRAM for their sponsorship of the event and to the individuals from across Europe who committed their time and personal expenses to attend.
