Grand Marais Singletrack Comes to Life
Teamwork brings great results. When the Superior National Forest needed assistance developing new singletrack trails they turned to Hansi Johnson, IMBA's Midwest Region Director. Hansi has a wide range of resources at his fingertips and went to work arranging a string of events that, in relatively short order, resulted in new trails.
First, Trail Solution's Trail Specialist Stephen Mullins spent several weeks working with the excellent staff from the Superior National Forest at the Sugarbush site, designing and flagging a new trail system. Stephen's visit was funded by IMBA's Trailbuilding Fund, whose main sponsor is international powerhouse and regional resident Trek Bicycles.
Next, Steven and Morgan Lommele of the fabled Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew helped train several hundred Boy Scouts of America that are buiding trails at Sugarbush and the nearby Pincushion site. Check out the progress that will have trails open to mountain bicyclists sooner than you can say "swing a Pulaski".
Regional Directors, Trail Care Crew, Trail Solutions, Boy Scouts of America, the US Forest Service, and Trek Bicycles: all working together to create new riding opportunities.
