The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) continues to advance its work in Europe. During this year's Eurobike Expo in Germany (Sept. 1-4), two of the industry's top mountain bike component manufacturers, SRAM and FOX Racing Shox are teaming up to host a reception on behalf of IMBA and its European mountain bike advocacy efforts. The event will be held at SRAM's booth, (Hall A3, #103) beginning at 17:30 on Sept. 2.
"IMBA's trail efforts have assured that mountain biking will be a sport in North America forever. We are thrilled to see that expertise offered in more places," said Mike Mercuri, SRAM vice president of sales and marketing. SRAM provided a grant that launched IMBA Europe in 2009.
The reception will feature remarks by IMBA Europe leaders who are in the final stages of forming an organization, recruiting its board, and writing its constitution in order to apply for formal recognition as a European non-governmental organization. Those attending will also hear about IMBA Europe activities related to its mountain bike trail development, including the successful Flow-trails Development Summit held this summer in Livigno, Italy, in partnership with Hans Rey.
"There are some great opportunities, and sadly some threats to growing mountain biking participation in many parts of Europe." says IMBA President, Mike Van Abel. "Yet I am encouraged by the growing awareness and critical mass of European mountain bike enthusiasts and advocates who want to advance mountain bike trails development and advocacy under the IMBA umbrella."
IMBA Europe leaders will be available for meetings throughout the Eurobike show. Look for them at the Deutsche Initiative Mountainbike (DIMB), stand (#FW-201) in the West Entrance Foyer.
