Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest, Wisconsin

Project Type: Design
Length: 5 miles in 2003
Use: mountain bike, hike
Dimensions: 24" to 36"

With a narrow corridor, sometimes only 150 feet wide, between the Emma Carlin and John Muir trail systems and four, single-use trails to pack in, Wisconsin DNR was having some difficulty. Mountain bike use is managed in a uni-directional fashion in the Emma Carlin and John Muir systems. Therefore the connector corridor required two mountain bike trails to eliminate bi-directional travel. Trail Solutions was hired to design the 5-mile connector in a sustainable fashion, dealing with poor soils and steep side slopes of the kettle topography.
