Project Type: construction
Length: 2 miles in 2003
Use: mountain bike, hike, equestrian
Dimensions: 36"

The Truckee Meadows Trail Association (TMTA) secured a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant to reconstruct a trail from Rancho San Rafael County Park in Reno up to the ridge overlooking the City. Formerly, the trail tread was located mostly in the garbage-filled intermittent Evanís Creek channel, but the countyís stream restoration efforts required relocating the trail. The Trail Solutions team enlisted the assistance and support of local trail users during the project, led informal trail maintenance seminars, and worked with TMTA to coalesce the local trails community. The resulting trail has become the best amenity in the neighborhood that sees ten times its previous use, the garbage has been removed, the stream condition is improving, and the public is asking for more projects of this type.
