Dieppe, New Brunswick: Trailwork, Education and Riding in the Maritime Provinces

The Lopes' visit provided Dieppe its first IMBA trailbuilding school. Participants came from as far as Barrie, Ontario.
Little did they know they would be put to hard work moving large rocks and logs to create a raised trail tread where water tends to pool.
Nat and Rachael fit in a few rides in the Maritimes before heading westward. Bruce, the owner of IMBA-affiliated shop, Hub Cycle, led them on a fun local ride in Victoria Park in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Hillsborough, New Brunswick was a great destination too. Locals from Dieppe showed Nat and Rachael around the network of mica covered singletrack. Check out the great bench cut trail!
The riding on Prince Edward Island was full of roots as expected, and the singletrack lived up to its positive reputation.

Nat and Rachael Lopes of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew started their trans-Canadian tour at the tip of the Bay of Fundy in Dieppe, New Brunswick. It's an area mountain bikers know for it's boreal forests laced with shallow root structures, micro-topography and spongy soils. Local riders are accustomed to challenging riding conditions and local trailbuilders have become clever stewards of the trails. In Dieppe's Rotary Park you can find numerous trail maintenance techniques used to get users out of wet, muddy sections, above sensitive root structures and over drainage crossings. The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew came to assist the Canadian Cycling Association and local mountain bikers with their tricky trailbuilding conditions.
