A proper switchback was needed here due to the steepness of the sideslope.
switchback
This switchback, with it's strong retaining wall, level turning platform, and water drain, will greatly reduce erosion. It will also improve trail flow for mountain bikers. Learn more about switchbacks.
More than 1000-feet of new trail was constructed
More than 1000-feet of new trail was constructed this weekend, and about 250-hours of trailwork was volunteered.

The Conejo Open Space Conservancy in the Santa Monica Mountains is dedicated to expanding the shared-use trail system around growing local housing developments. Local volunteers, including many members of the IMBA-affiliated Concerned Off-Road Bicycle Association, joined the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew to show appreciation for the Conservancy's dedication.

The weekend's volunteer project continued new construction of the Dos Vientos Connector in Newbury Park. This trail is accessed from one of many trailheads in the numerous housing developments in this area. With a fast-growing community and beautiful mountainous landscapes, it's important to ensure local residents and others have easily accessible places to recreate. These local trails connect with state and national park land all the way to the ocean about 20 miles away. Providing family-friendly trails promotes healthy lifestyles and a growing constituency for the outdoors.

Thanks to all the volunteers who came out and made this weekend so effective! Kudos to members of the North Ranch Mountain Bike Club, Believers on Mountain Bikes and other local trailworkers.
