The Smart Tool was used often to measure the outslope of the trail tread to ensure is was at five percent. This outslope will help any water traveling down the sideslope to sheet across and off the trail.

The Friends of Boggs Mountain along with the Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest put on a great weekend celebration of trailbuilding, mountain biking and Easter. Seventeen local volunteers came out Saturday morning to learn techniques of sustainable trailbuilding construction and maintenance from Crew leaders, Nat and Rachael Lopes.

At the end of the two days of work on this holiday weekend, the volunteers put in more than 100 hours of work, constructed 1/4 mile of new trail and volunteered more than 100 hours.

Not only is there great mountain biking in this small town, it's also home Calpine Corporation- the largest steam powered energy power producer in the world. The natural geysers of this area have been tapped into for decades to supply the area with natural hot springs to soak in and energy for all of Northern California. Calpine generously donated their facilities for the weekend to help support local recreation.

Thanks to Tom Smythe and the Friends of Boggs Mountain for organizing a great weekend. From trailwork to Ukranian egg classes, there was something for everyone!
