Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew Visits Chicago
The Palos Preserve in southwest Chicago provides an island of rolling terrain and forest full of trails. The good folks of CAMBR (Chicago Area Mountain Bikers) invited the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew to speak with the Cook County trail managers and check out the new trail CAMBR has been building.
We had a good discussion with the Cook County managers about maintaining trails and benefits of effective signage in reducing enforcement problems. The Cook County parks have the same issues as urban parks around the country: they're under-funded, under-staffed, and over-loved. CAMBR has worked long and hard to develop a relationship with Cook County and this spring they received permission to build a new section of sustainable singletrack.
CAMBR and Cook County are hopeful that this well-built section of new trail will mark the start of a new era at Palos whereby the park and trails can get some of the help they need through volunteer programs.
A big "Thank-you!" to CAMBR for all the paperwork and shovel-work they've done to ensure bikes have a place in Palos.
