New River Gorge National River Update
Often, after the TCC visits an area, they don't know what progress has been until
they comeback in a year or so. Well, thanks to the internet, email and digital
photography we can now not on read about but actually see the impact a Crew has had
after they've hit the road and are on to the next trail. The following is a
letter and photos bringing us up to speed on the Crew's recent visit to West Virginia.
Jen and Rich,
It is hard to believe that it has been two months since your visit here... and I am just now getting around to sending you a "Thank You" for a wonderful, educational, productive, and fun IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew experience.
Things are progressing well (if never as quickly as one would want) on the trail that we worked on during your visit. Julie, Chris, and I have been chipping away at it, along with a few local "youth." We are looking forward to the off-season to schedule some volunteer work days, when more of the local population has time off and the weather is more conducive to trail construction.
I also wanted to pass along that we received the TEA21 grant for trailhead development and construction of the bridge over Wolf Creek. This ensures that this will probably become one of the most utilized trails in the park.
We still have lots of work to do here -- on this trail and hopefully on many others. It is probably too early to request a 2001 visit, but hopefully you will consider a return to New River Gorge. Late October can be beautiful -- maybe swing by on your way to NOC?
I have attached a few photos of our trail work. Hope that you are enjoying the rest of your journey. Stop by if you are ever in the area, and we will find another rock to scale.
Cheers,
Greg & Julie Phillips
