IMBA Clubs Getting Political: Three Different Approaches
Access 4 Bikes (Marin County, CA)
Non-profit political organization - IRC 527
Access 4 bikes (A4B) was formed in response to the continued decrease in
access to trails in and around Marin County. They believe that the only
way to reverse the exclusionary policies is through political action.
A4B interviews and endorses candidates. Their members actively
volunteer on political campaigns - work phone banks, canvas neighborhoods
and stuff envelopes in order to elect bicycle friendly candidates. More

Boulder Off-Road Alliance (Colorado)
Colorado Non-profit Corporation
Faced with limited mountain bike trail access, BOA decided to forgo
501(c)(3) status in order to endorse political candidates. Last year,
BOA organized the Boulder area recreation community to conduct candidate
interviews of city council candidates. Based on these interviews, the
group officially endorsed candidates. This year, they are reviewing
county commission candidates and encouraging their members to volunteer
for those that are the most mountain bike friendly. More info:

Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts
Non-profit 501(c)(3)
MORE (MD, VA, DC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and does not endorse
candidates for public office. They do encourage their 400 members to be
politically active and to volunteer for local campaigns. MORE invites
all elected officials to club events, regardless of party affiliation.
They survey candidates on recreation and access issues and post the
information for all members to view and make their own decisions on
election day. More info: www.more-mtb.org.
