REI/IMBA "Grassroots Guru" Program Sets Goal of 10,000 Trailwork Days by 2010

As part of an ongoing commitment to promote outdoor stewardship, REI will collaborate on a new initiative with IMBA in 2006. The "Grassroots Guru," a new halftime staff position, will be charged with inspiring 10,000 volunteer trailwork projects by the year 2010.

REI will fund cash grants and help clubs access trailwork tools, gloves and trailhead education signs specially designed for trails programs. The REI/IMBA partnership will also create an extensive data-gathering project focused on gathering volunteer trailwork metrics, including the number of trailwork events nationwide, number of volunteers participating, and miles of trail maintained - metrics that will greatly aid mountain bike clubs in their access and advocacy efforts. The project will also produce online and printed educational materials.
