Top Priorities Include Creating New Trails, Adding Bilingual Resources
IMBA Canada has a number of exciting projects on tap for 2006. With membership at an all-time high, Canadian mountain bike advocates are rapidly building the critical mass needed to dramatically enhance mountain bike resources across the nation. In the year ahead, IMBA Canada will add key resources in French to imba.com/canada, create more and better trail opportunities in all parts of the country, and build our political clout by bringing new clubs, corporate supporters and individual members into the fold.
Watch for these and other IMBA Canada programs to bring impressive results in 2006:
Toronto Urban Hot Spot- Yearlong campaign
- Sponsored by Bicycle Trade Association of Canada (BTAC)
- Follows a successful Hot Spot program in Ottawa
- Promotes ecological integrity through sustainable trails
- IMBA Canada has received a grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op's Environment Fund for trail education and visits to four provinces
- Visits to the National Capital Region, and Victoria, BC, have already taken place, with visits in Eastern Canada to come
- Four visits to Canada in 2006: May 18-21 in Dieppe, New Brunswick; May 25-28 in Coaticook, QC; June 1-4 in Albion Hills, ON; June 15-18 in Cowichan Valley, BC
- Trail Care Crew will visit Whistler, BC, for Crankworx on August 3-6
- IMBA Canada will expand its partnership with Parks Canada
- Team with Parks Canada on a trails project in Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick
- Present a trails workshop to Parks Canada staff in Jasper National Park, AB
- Rapid expansions, with services now including fee-based trail construction, as well as educational and consulting programs
- Projects across Canada, including a 100km trail design in Burns Lake, BC
IMBA Summit/World Mountain Bike Conference Comes To Canada
For the first time, the IMBA Summit will be held in Canada, at Whistler, BC, on June 20-23. Who could think of a better place to celebrate mountain biking? The combination the IMBA Summit with the World Mountain Bike Conference will result in the largest gathering of mountain bike advocates and land managers ever.
