Early Summer 2003
Washington State Parks recently purchased the Dalles Mountain Ranch in the Columbia River Gorge. A management plan for the land is being developed and the Columbia Area Mountain Biking Advocates (CAMBA, based in Hood River, Oregon, just across the Columbia River) will present a proposal for access at a parks meeting June 19 in Wenatchee. CAMBA is calling for new trails to reduce crowding at other areas and expand opportunities for winter riding in the Northwest. Check www.camba.info for more information.
In Santa Cruz, California, the Wilder Ranch State Park Volunteer Trail Crew completed the Twin Oaks Trail re-alignment. The re-route bypasses wet and sandy areas that prompted seasonal trail closures. The project was a cooperative effort between California State Parks and local volunteer groups, including Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County Horsemen's Assoc., and Trailworkers.com. The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew assisted with early planning of the re-route and decommissioning of the old trail.
IMBA and affiliated clubs in the Golden State are planning California Wild Rides on trails situated within proposed Wilderness areas. Many of these trails are popular mountain biking routes. These events offer a great opportunity to learn about the Wilderness issue and mountain biking. Visit imba.com for dates and locations or contact IMBA Northern California rep Jim Haagen-Smit at .
