The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency presented the New England Mountain Bike Association with an Environmental Merit Award in recognition of the group's "exceptional work and commitment to the environment in 2002... for preserving and protecting our natural resources." Save Mercer And Ride the Trails (SMART) is re-marking the off-road trails in Mercer County Park in West Windsor, New Jersey. The majority of the trailmarkers installed in 2002 were vandalized, prompting the Parks Commission to increase patrols and enforce strict penalties for vandalism.
The Jersey Action Riders Mountain Bike Club is conducting monthly mountain bike skills clinics at Gloucester County College in Sewell, New Jersey. For info, visit www.jerseyactionriders.org.
CNY Dirt is using a NORBA/IMBA Trail Tune Up Grant to build a new trail on a race course in Highland Forest, near Syracuse, New York. The group also initiated a beginner ride series called Green Spokes, designed to provide a low-key way to introduce people to the sport.
The Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts launched a trail construction project at Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to expand the trail system at this under-utilized park. Once complete, Rosaryville will offer about 16 miles of shared-use trails. MORE also continues to expand the trail system at Fountainhead Regional Park in northern Virginia.
