The Gateway Off-Road Cyclists (GORC) of St. Louis, Missouri received an Award of Merit for Outstanding Services from the National Association of County Parks and Recreation. GORC was awarded for its exceptional volunteer training and trailbuilding. GORC shows no signs of slowing down. They recently adopted the 18-mile North Trace Creek section of the Ozark Trail and plan improvement projects on the trail in upcoming months. For info about how to get involved with volunteer trailwork on this epic stretch of singletrack, email Eastern Missouri IMBA rep John Donjoian at or visit www.kellerhayes.com/gorc/index.asp.
South Dakota IMBA rep Phil Bushing is embarking on a monumental task that will benefit all mountain bikers: mapping and marking trails in the Black Hills. There are tons of trails in this region, but a lack of solid trails information has hampered mountain bike tourism and its economic benefits. For more information on Phil's Black Hills mapping project email .
The 2nd annual Midwest Mountain Bike Summit, held in Kansas City, Missouri in March, was a successful gathering of mountain bike advocates from the heartland. The event featured a bike swap, advocacy seminars and trailbuilding clinics. National Mountain Bike Patrol sponsor Dan McKay Insurance presented a $2,000 check at the summit to sponsor the IMBA program in 2003.
