The Northeast Alabama Bicycle Club is maintaining a slew of mountain bike trails, including the Chocolloca Trail System, Cheaha Mountain Trails and Lagarde Park. Future projects include work on the Coldwater Mountain Project and Fort McClellan, a 2,500-acre property that previously was part of the Anniston Army Depot. Visit www.neabc.org for more info.
Southern Off Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) chapters and other mountain bikers in Georgia have quietly developed partnerships with land trust organizations. In northwest Georgia, the Chattanooga Bike Club has been working with the Lula Lake Land Trust to develop an environmentally friendly mountain bike trail system on property located between Cloudland Canyon State Park and Lookout Mountain National Battlefield Park.
In Roswell, Georgia IMBA affiliate club RAMBO received permission to begin trail construction in Big Creek Park. This 160-acre property was purchased last year by the City of Roswell and was slated to be bulldozed for an apartment complex.
