National Forest Travel Management Plans are being reviewed and revised in Colorado and Montana. IMBA-affiliate COPMOBA is appealing a travel plan decision for Colorado's Uncompahgre National Forest that could close the Little Creek/Corral Fork trails and the Failes Creek/Big Park trails to mountain biking. The White River National Forest in central Colorado is beginning a travel plan that could set a nationwide precedent.
Montana's Gallatin National Forest near Bozeman is creating a new travel management plan that could prohibit mountain biking on the Emerald Lake and Hyalite Lake trails. Check with your local club or IMBA to see if written comments are needed for Forest Service or BLM plans in your area.
Albuquerque's IMBA-affiliated Trail Partners is looking for someone to represent the mountain biking community at upcoming trail planning and access meetings with the U.S. Forest Service. Please contact Bub Hufnagel at 505-294-9285 to volunteer.
Inspired by Trails 2000, more than 120 mountain bikers in the Durango area assisted on two fire restoration projects in the Valley Fire burn area. The volunteers planted 540 new trees and spread seed and mulch on more than 30 acres of land. New growth was visible within a few weeks.
